Moving Whitby Forward
Whitby has made significant progress -- but there is still more work ahead. Mayor Elizabeth Roy remains focused on building a community that is safe, affordable, connected, and prepared for the future.
Key priorities for her next term include:
- Building Whitby’s next Community Strategic Plan for 2026-2030 in consultation with residents
- Continued advocacy on next steps for Whitby’s new hospital and work with community partners to begin a fundraising strategy
- Acting on the recommendations from the Core Services Review to deliver Town services more efficiently and cost effectively
- Continuing to work closely with the Region of Durham and community partners to ensure supports for people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity
- Continued work to build new revenue streams as a way of reducing pressure on property taxpayers
- Next steps on waterfront revitalization including improvements to the Whitby Marina, opening of the Rowe House culinary hub and new initiatives to support tourism
- Delivering the priorities set out in Whitby’s Recreation Master Plan including a refrigerated outdoor ice rink
- Continued focus on revitalizing Whitby’s two downtowns including a new Downtown Whitby Action Plan and next steps on the Brock Street Redesign Study
